September was a real whirl of activity in Nockamixon, with celebrations and victories and progress of all kinds. The Palisades football teams are all making some serious noise. All had solid wins against Eastons Wilson, the first time thats happened since 1995. Congrats to all middle school, junior varsity and varsity team members! Special recognition goes to the JVs Shawn Manwaring and Brandon Weber for their heroic bomb-and-run for an 80-yard touchdown in the last 44 seconds of the game. The Homecoming game is tomorrow at 7 PM, with the dance following on Saturday from 7-10 in the high school cafeteria. Lets see a big turnout for the home team! Victory of another kind was celebrated on Sept. 14th, when American Legion Post 399 (Ottsville) held its recognition ceremony for Korean War veterans. They celebrated the 50th anniversary of their return home with a moving dedication. Thanks, vets! We appreciate your courage and patriotism. The Palisades cheerleaders have been busy raising funds for their activities, holding car washes and bake sales at Wehrungs Home Center. The Eastern Upper Bucks Senior Center will be holding a Bake Sale there on the 4th. Make sure to stop and support these worthwhile organizations when you can. And be sure to thank the Wehrung family for being so committed to providing outlets for this kind of positive work. Every community should be so lucky to have such fantastic neighbors.

A very exciting turn of events gives us all something to look forward to. At the monthly Township meeting, Supervisor Anne Lyons made a motion to name September 25, 2004, Nockamixon Township Community Day, and the resolution was passed unanimously! So start planning how you will help celebrate our community in the event, which will take place at the Bucks County Horse Park in Revere. Speaking of worthwhile organizations, congratulations to president Todd Stone and the Gallows Run Watershed Association. They were awarded a $45,000 grant from the state to buy well monitoring equipment. It will gather data for the ongoing groundwater study the GRWA initiated on behalf of the Township. We all owe them our thanks for their efforts to keep our water supply safe and adequate. Another busy organization is the Palisades Community Foundation, formerly known as the Jolly Roger Society. Dont miss their Sunday soirée at Chef Tells Manor House on the 19th. Enjoy the Chefs scrumptious hors doeuvres while you peruse all the offerings in their Silent Auction. Funds raised will benefit their drive to pay for a new All-Weather Track at the high school. Tonight is Candidates Night at the Palisades Middle School, where Nox residents can take the opportunity to get to know candidates for seats as Bucks County Commissioner, Palisades School Board and Nockamixon Township Supervisor. Kudos to all participating candidates, for giving us the chance to see and hear for ourselves what they are really all about. Residents, take advantage of this informational forum, register to vote with the League of Women Voters, and most important: Vote on November 4th! We need a strong voice in government, now more than ever.
