Nockamixon Notes |

Our little townships a busy place these days! On Friday, April 25th, State Senator Rob Wonderling stopped by to take the pulse of our community. Though we had been incorrectly told at Wednesday nights town meeting that the public was not invited, indeed the Senator was making the rounds in his district specifically to find out whats on the minds of his constituents. I was lucky enough to be at the meeting, and feel we are being represented in Harrisburg by a concerned and dedicated official. The next day, our annual Township Cleanup Day was well attended despite the rain and chill. Once again, our citizens made a proud showing in their efforts to keep Nockamixon a tidy and welcoming place to live. Local restaurants donated yummy food for the Volunteers Thank You Luncheon, and several door prizes were awarded. Looks like things arent going as cleanly in local politics, though. More than one Republican candidate for Supervisor was uninformed as to the date of the meeting to decide which candidates will be endorsed, and consequently ended up being left off the partys official recommended slate. Hmmm

If you havent been paying attention to the current debate over the high schools fire alarm retrofit, time to tune in, folks. While the School District Board asserts that its putting the safety of our children above all else, it has apparently retained the services of a high-powered legal firm known for winning cases against local government to appeal our Building Inspectors recommendation that an automated fire alarm system be installed. The Board wants instead to put in a lower-cost manual pull system, and many parents are angry, citing the shortcomings of such a system. The issue promises to come to a boil at the public meeting 7 pm on May 5 at Palisades Middle School. On a more positive note, the River Valley School will host its 7th Annual Golden Night Auction at 5:30 pm on May 31st at the school on Bridgeton Hill Road in Upper Black Eddy. Hors doeuvres, desserts and beverages from the areas finest restaurants may be enjoyed for $15 advance tickets or $20 at the door. Then follows a Live and a Silent Auction to benefit the only Waldorf-inspired Bucks County school, which currently offers a parent-tot program, mixed-age kindergarten and grades 1-5.
