Lots of doings in Nox this month. Before we get to current events, I thought Id share some interesting tidbits from the past. These notices were taken from long-ago issues of the Doylestown Intelligencer: March 15, 1897 Wedding bells rang merrily on Wednesday evening when Josiah Rufe, of Revere, led to the altar Miss Emma Trouts, of Philadelphia. The ceremony was performed at the brides home near Revere by the Rev. S.S. Diehl. Apparently the newlyweds did well, for an entry from April 8 of the same year reads: Mr. & Mrs. Josiah Rufe, of Revere, have gone into the hotel business at Ferndale. Mr. Bailey, who vacated the place, moved to Bridgeton. Im guessing its referring to what is now the Ferndale Inn restaurant, owned and operated by Karen Baron. And it seems our little township hasnt always been a peaceful place to be, for the December 6 edition of 1889 reports: The White Caps have been sending their notices to some of our citizens, telling them how to act. The White Caps called on one of our residents quite lately, taking him out and whipping him until they frightened him thoroughly. I guess some KKK members hadnt heard that the Union won the war 24 years earlier!

Back to our own time: Norma Fox tells me that the Palisades Alumni Association is seeking addresses for graduates of Palisades High School, to notify them of the upcoming 50th year reunion. Theyre also looking for class representatives and are requesting donations to build current student scholarships. Anyone interested should contact Norma at 610-847-5445 or Helen Nast at 610-847-5937. You can also write them at: Palisades Alumni Association, PO Box 1, Revere, PA 18953. The Bucks County Office of Military Affairs reminds all Nockamixon Township vets of the upcoming Veterans Golf Outing on May 22. The outing will be held at Five Ponds Golf Course in Warminster, and will serve as a fundraiser for Bucks County Veterans Transportation. This organization sponsors the Bucks County Veterans Van, which operates on weekdays to shuttle vets to and from the VA Hospitals in Philadelphia and Coatesville. Nockamixon vets can catch the van either at the Quakertown Government Service Center on West End Blvd., or at the Doylestown Veteran Affairs Office in Neshaminy Manor Center. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this service should call Betty at 215-345-3885 at least two weeks before an upcoming appointment to schedule transportation.
