Judging from the 2003 township budget meeting, some exciting developments are in the works. Highlights include:

  • American Legion Park in Revere – new playground equipment, the Historical Society’s usual summer concerts, and a 50th Anniversary celebration to recognize those who fought in the Korean War.
  • Highway maintenance funding includes storm water management work on Ealer Hill.
  • Capital improvement expenditures will encompass cleanup of private properties acquired by the township last year.
  • Several grants, including one from the state's Growing Greener program, will help the township preserve natural resources, once approved.
  • Improved communications – An official township website is in development and the township newsletter may move to a quarterly schedule from its previous semi-annual appearance.

Local business owners, Carolyn Dauerbach of Palisades High School reminds us that you may benefit from hiring eager, motivated student employees for after-school and weekend work through the school’s Career Center. Call her to list your job opening at 610-847-5131 x2012.

Ann Lyons reports that the fourth grade at Tinicum Elementary School presented the Jolly Roger Society with a holiday surprise this Christmas. Area school students have been challenged by the JRS to fill large jars provided to help raise the $350 thousand needed for the high school's new all-weather track. Since all students will benefit from the athletic field upgrade, they are having a contest to see who can fill their jar with loose change first. The fourth graders took the initiative, foregoing Christmas presents to instead use the money to fill their jar, which was presented to Carle Robbins, President of the Jolly Rogers.

A Nockamixon neighbor needs your help. Book lovers, imagine your lives without libraries. This horrific scenario is close to becoming a reality in Pipersville. Mary Lou Wenner of the Pipersville Free Library is looking for part-time volunteers to staff the counter. The current opening is for Thursday and Friday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm, but they are happy to hear from anyone with any availability. The library runs solely on volunteer efforts, and without enough people power, is in danger of having to cut its already limited hours of service. No experience is required, so give some serious thought to volunteering for these worthwhile positions. Call the library to offer your services at 215-766-7880.
