Hope you all had enjoyable holidays. With the unseasonably warm weather, it was hard to tell it was Christmastime! I am excited to share a holiday-related find with you, though. I was quite pleased to discover a local treasure just in time to give my clients a little taste of Nockamixon for a holiday gift. I sent them brownies from our own Lori Gauls Rolling Pin Pastries, and saved one tin for us to enjoy. And enjoy we did. In a word: YUM! If my inbox jammed with rave reviews is any indication, everyone should get their orders in now, before Lori gets too smart and raises her prices! You may have sampled some of these tasty morsels at Nockamixon Community Day this past fall, but if not, youll get another chance: Lori will soon be opening her shop in the Bucksville Plaza Shopping Center. Those of you who haven't yet discovered Rolling Pin delicacies are in for a real treat. Want to check them out for yourself or your own corporate giving? Cant wait till Lori opens her storefront? You can reach her at 610-847-8383. As for newer faces around town, make sure you stop in up at the Township building to welcome Cathy Gorman, our new township manager. I got the chance to spend some time with her at the generous holiday party (what a spread!), and she's a genuinely nice person with a great head on her shoulders. Whatever your question or request, you'll be in capable hands with our newest addition. And of course, Arlene Eichlins always a cheerful, smiling face up there, as well. Thanks for your good work, gals! Speaking of the Township, once again the Board has allowed their Internet domain to expire, despite repeated reminders from Marty Focazio, who has long been lobbying for a real effort at ongoing Web communication with residents. He finally just registered the domain himself. As a public service, he has launched an unsanctioned site that can function like an official township site until they manage to get one together.

Between this and Anne Lyons About Town site, the community should be able to stay fairly well informed despite the lack of timely official channels. Check them out at: nockamixon.com and anne-lyons.org. Incidentally, you should check out About Town to learn more about the latest shenanigans regarding the 2004 audit if you care about where your tax dollars are going. Were you aware that our elected auditors are being prevented from doing their jobs? Kind of disturbing Of course, lots of folks are talking about the proposed massive density multi-family development behind the Revere store. A single development that would increase our township's population by 20% and auto traffic by about 400 cars is nothing to sneeze at. There may be trouble ahead for the plan, though. Among other things, a prominent area hydrologist has taken a walking tour of the site and found cattails, water courses and strong signs of poor recharge. In laymens terms, this means serious groundwater issues that could prevent building. Learn more at www.grwabucks.org/issues.html. Ferndale Postmaster Nancy Herr reminds everyone of the new, more stringent rules regarding packages mailed to Canada. Stop in at the Post Office for more info it can really make a difference in what you send. Please help keep this column interesting to the Nockamixon community and send your local news items, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc. to notes@thewordforge.com, or via postal mail in care of the Herald. Thanks for reading.
